Rapsody The Idea of Beautiful Review

Rapsody – The Idea of Beautiful

Rapsody barrels through the gates with her first album “The Idea of Beautiful” coming in August of 2012. Keeping the style of her mixtapes from 2010 and 2011 she expresses herself in the rapping style we’ve come to know her by. You’re gonna’ get 16 tracks of some serious story telling and even though it’s not one of my more favorite genres it’s an entertaining album nonetheless. Having said that, I must say that the music aside from the lyrics seem a little off. Maybe I am being too critical but it doesn’t seem to flow with the lyrics like you’d expect. “A little off” would probably be the diplomatic way of saying it. There are a couple tracks I took an interest to and let’s face it, when an album offers 16 of them you’re bound to find one you like. But still I can’t help but be a bit put off by the background noise that doesn’t compliment the lyrics. Seems like this album had great potential but sadly in my opinions falls a little short.

“The Idea of Beautiful” lands in my book at a 5/10. Not the first album I would grab off a shelf but not the last. Somewhere in the middle. Unfortunately these days most of these genres including rap have been so overdone that it’s hard to keep original. Luckily, Rapsody keeps to her own style, and hopefully she remains there. It would be sad for someone to move out of their comfort zone only to get shot down by the masses.

All in all, the good is the lyrics. Definitely, who could dispute a good story. The bad, well I still can’t get around the music. Unfortunately it sounds like one of the mainstream bands that all sound the same. A few come to mind but I won’t point any fingers here.
